Happy 2021! May this year bring us all hope, blessings, and peace.
Are you a goal setter, or does the thought of setting goals stir up a wave of anxiety and fear of failure? Honestly, I have never been good at setting goals and then working toward them. I was never taught how to set goals, or encouraged to dream big dreams and chase them until they become reality. When I hear or read that I should set some goals for this new year, I feel challenged and intimidated at the same time. What should I reach for this year? What does God want me to accomplish this year, physically, spiritually, in my relationships, in my home, in my business? I want my goals to be centered on His plans for me. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says, "For I know the plans I have for you...plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." As I think over the last year, it becomes even more apparent that we are not in control of this world. Hard as we try, we humans cannot control a pandemic, disease, violence, behaviors or beliefs of others. Only our sovereign God can do that. We can, however, be the hands and feet of Jesus to bring comfort, hope and joy to those around us. I want my goals to reflect Jesus and to let him lead me in the ways that he chooses to use me to fulfill my Father's plans. I am working on setting some goals for this new year. Though I have no idea what this year will bring, I will dream of better things; of healing, of blessing, of hope. My first goal will be to remember to step back from the chaos and rest in Psalm 46:10 which tells me, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." May it be so.

In the first six years of our marriage, we moved six times between five states, with each of our four children born in a different state. When our youngest was almost three, some friends gave us the use of their timeshare for a vacation for just the two of us. We were so excited, yet anxious about being away from our children. We had several options to choose from and finally settled on a resort in the Dominican Republic. All the arrangements were made, and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law came to stay with the kids. We were on our way.
