Hi, I'm Vanessa, the creator and seamstress behind Love You Bears. Here is how the first Love You Bear came to be.
“Love you, miss you, see you soon.” Our youngest son was in bootcamp at Camp Pendleton and we were writing letters back and forth. His dad would often sign his letters with these words. “Love you” fell easily from his lips and radiated from his being to his family and friends.
A decade later, these words have become especially precious to us. On December 2, 2016, Rich, our loving husband, dad, and papa left this world and walked into heaven with Jesus. Cancer is a fierce enemy, but it doesn’t win. Jesus wins, and because of Him, we cling to the words from this man who loved deeply and is deeply missed. “Love you, miss you, see you soon.”
Our daughter used her dad’s handwriting from the letters and made each of us picture frames that first, difficult Christmas. Each of our frames say, “Love you, miss you, see you soon”. They are precious keepsakes.
Rich was in the hospital after his initial surgery where he was visited by our grandchildren. Our grandson, Sidney, was five and he brought his Papa a special teddy bear. It was his own dark brown teddy bear that he had named Chocolate Bear and he told his Papa that Chocolate Bear was there to take care of him and help him get better. Later, I saw Sid sitting on the floor with the bear and overheard him say, “I know you will miss me, but you need to stay here to help Papa get well”. Oh, how Sid can prick our hearts!
As I began to make memory bears from Rich’s shirts for our family, I longed to share Sidney’s tender heart and honor Rich’s loving spirit. So began the birth of Love You Bears. Your special custom bear will come to you with a smile, filled with hope, comfort, love, and precious memories. Each bear purchase helps to sponsor a child through Compassion International. Currently, I sponsor an adorable little girl in the Dominican Republic. Her smile lights up her dingy world as she is learning all about how much Jesus loves her. Read about her on my Blog page and learn why the Dominican Republic is so special to me.
Thanks for letting us share in your special memories.
To our witty, adventurous, loving husband, dad, and papa: Love you, miss you, see you soon.
